Pachamama in Hürriyet: ‘Earth Mother’ philosophy inspired Alaçatı hotel

Hürriyet wrote about our project Pachamama, which we are proud of. You may read the translation of the news below.

The rapidly growing accommodation sector in Alaçatı is faced with an extraordinary example that is breaking the routine this time. The thematic hotel Pachamama, which started by synthesizing the ‘mother earth’ philosophy of the South American natives with the nature and art approaches of ancient civilizations, opened its doors to meet with its guests in the new season. Designed and built by architect Mustafa Teksoy, inspired by nature with “building technology” techniques, Pachamama with artistic objects designed with the refined taste of designer Muzna Abdulhamit, aims to make its guests experience pleasure and peace.

While the idea of “return to nature” is getting more and more attention all over the world, the number of people who want to touch the soil with their bare hands, grow their products, and live in natural houses is also increasing rapidly. Also, while the idea that natural life is the antidote to the chaos and unrest created by metropolitan cities is gaining more and more value, attempts to rebuild the lost human-nature connection are rapidly increasing. One of the latest and most impressive examples of this approach is Pachamama Hotel, built by the Teksoy family in Alaçatı.

Arzu Teksoy, Armağan Teksoy, and Mustafa Teksoy, who spent their childhood in Alaçatı and fed on the natural blessings of this small village, decided to create a nature-based ‘Pachamama theme” to share these gifts generously with their guests.

The fact that ‘Pachamama’ means ‘mother earth’ in the language of South American Indians gives an important clue about the approach of the hotel. Architect Mustafa Teksoy, who manages the construction project, says that they aim to synthesize the nature and art approaches of many different civilizations under this heading by choosing a universal name such as “mother earth” that creates the same strong vibration in every human being. Stating that they make use of special “building biology” techniques in the construction, architect Teksoy says that instead of escaping to the convenience of modern knowledge, they “chose the difficult” at every stage from material selection to construction techniques and that they create a “breathing hybrid structure” by following traditional methods.

Directing every stage of construction with its innovative approach, Teksoy has tried different types of plaster with materials such as clay, lime, straw, and tile dust by hybridizing traditional and natural building material techniques. Discovering materials that will both contribute to the comfort of the environment and have aesthetic value, Teksoy aimed to provide energy efficiency by taking advantage of environmental conditions with architectural details such as the compact form of the building, its extension on the east-west axis, and the use of proportionally few windows on these facades. Natural factors such as wind and sun have been included in every stage of the design process, considering the fine technical details. The wind passing through the Pachamama’s roof cavity prevents the building from overheating, it allows you to meet with clean air and cool naturally as soon as you open the door of your room. Pachamama’s owners state that thanks to this simple form of the building, they can direct the wind naturally and minimize the need for extra cooling. The garden of Pachamama, which stands out with its special insulation details and low energy consumption, contains balance elements.

Architect Mustafa Teksoy gives the following information on this subject: “We wanted to take a step towards creating high-awareness living spaces that are sensitive to human health and nature. For example, while creating the interior spaces of Pachamama, we thought of breath and while creating the garden, we thought of balance. For us, the garden is the place where water and soil meet. We aimed for our guests to find peace in this place that brings the life cycle of nature and the flow of life to people. We invited tropical plants and trees that live in various parts of the world together with local plants to our garden.

Pachamama’s every corner is full of stories…

Pachamama Hotel, which the Teksoy family imagined and brought to life as a ‘living creature’, has become the center of artistic creativity thanks to the interior designs, artistic objects and ancient symbols interpreted by designer Muzna Abdülhamit specifically for Pachamama. In the hotel, which is reminiscent of a living exhibition hall, you encounter a new story at every corner thanks to Abdülhamit’s subtle touches by thoroughly absorbing the theme. Every object you encounter and every motif you come across suddenly tells you a pleasant story that goes back to ancient civilizations.

Stating that they care about the sense of ‘purification’ given by art as much as the ‘peace’ offered by nature, Teksoy says that the hotel will be the point of balancing and healing: “In Alaçatı’s unique time, which flows more slowly than the city, we want our guests to leave all their tiredness here. For this, we blended the healing wisdom of nature and art with high comfort and we named this peaceful experience Pachamama.”

Synthesizing high-quality comfort with natural materials and will soon provide almost all of its energy from renewable resources, Pachamama seems to be “good” not only for its guests but also for the tourism of Alaçatı with its extraordinary structure that brings together art, design, and nature!
